History

Since its inception in 2013, the Iowa Bike Expo has evolved into a premier event for cycling enthusiasts, offering a rich history of growth, excitement, and memorable moments. Let’s take a journey through the key milestones that have shaped this remarkable gathering.

2013: The Inaugural Expo

The Iowa Bike Expo began its journey in 2013, setting up shop in the hallway of the newly remodeled Vets Auditorium. With 65 booths and over 1,000 attendees, it quickly became evident that the expo had tapped into a vibrant and passionate cycling community. Managed by the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, the event served as the perfect bridge between the Iowa Bicycle Summit and the highly anticipated RAGBRAI Route Announcement Party.

2014: Expanding Horizons

Building on the success of its debut, the Iowa Bike Expo made a significant move in 2014. Relocating downstairs to HyVee Hall A at the Iowa Events Center, the expo became one of the first events to utilize the expansive space available. This move allowed for more exhibitors, a wider range of offerings, and an enhanced experience for attendees.

2016: A Rising Star Takes the Stage

In 2016, the Iowa Bike Expo became the backdrop for an unforgettable musical performance. Maddie Poppe, an up-and-coming artist, graced the main stage after having captivated audiences during RAGBRAI earlier that summer. Little did everyone know at the time, but Maddie Poppe would go on to win American Idol in 2018, solidifying the Iowa Bike Expo as a platform for incredible talent.

2017: Meeting Demands and Expanding Offerings

Responding to the growing enthusiasm and requests from attendees, the Iowa Bike Expo made yet another strategic move in 2017. Relocating to HyVee Hall C within the Iowa Events Center, the expo expanded its vendor presence, providing more opportunities for exhibitors to connect with their target audience. Additionally, a frequently requested demo track was introduced, allowing participants to test ride the latest bikes and gear, adding an exciting new dimension to the event.
